Took a client out fishing with Daniel on March 13th. Daniel worked hard to put us on fish. He shared a lot of knowledge of whys and where’s of what we were doing.

We caught more fish in the six hour trip out of Mexico beach than I could have ever imagined! My 13 year old son tells everyone we see about the fish he caught.

12lb Mangrove Snapper

Two guys in town from Arizona wanted to hit the reefs for some local groceries. Conditions were fair with a breeze increasing as the day progressed. We headed out about 30 minutes after safe light to make it happen. With the lower water temperatures this time of year I knew the Grouper have moved into their winter time depths so that's where we headed. The bite was non stop all day. Numerous barely undersized groupers and out of season red snappers were released. We did manage 3 very nice gag groupers and a 12lb mangrove snapper for the dinner table (enough for several meals). All in all over 100 fish were caught and it was another memorial day on the water.

Finally, a break in the weather

After a few days of putting it off finally, a break in the weather. Higher temps, clear skies, and clear back waters meant only one thing, sight fishing for reds with light tackle. Two fine gentlemen from Warner Robins Georgia along with myself were gonna go try and make it happen. Pulling up to one of my favorite flats we were soon met with the welcoming sight of small schools of reds. The day started slow with lots of refusals but then like a light switch with the turning of the tide it was on. Many reds were caught and released for another day.

Cold Cold Cold

Well at least for me. Conditions were less than ideal as a result of a cold front moving into the panhandle. Three guys from up north were adamant and I knew it was possible but probably going to be tough to say the least. Aware of the circumstances we were off in hopes to catch some big bull reds. The fishing was slow and the big reds did not cooperate but attitudes were positive and after what seemed like forever are luck finally turned. Finally a bent rod and a screaming reel as the result of massive black durm. With our time running out I suggested a quick move in hopes to catch dinner. We did and soon the whiting were chewing and the cooler full.

Mr. Carlton from South Georgia

Conditions were fair with a strong wind and rain predicted for the afternoon. But we had sheepshead on the brain. A sometimes tricky fish to hook but very rewarding when done so especially on light tackle. We knew we were a few weeks early for them to pile up in great numbers but we still wanted to give it a try. Armed with light tackle and a few special baits we made the run. To our surprise we got lucky. We found them. The bite was very touch and go but we managed a few and were very pleased. We then decided to finish our morning on the reef adding a few vermilion and mangrove snappers to the box. We headed back to the dock about 30 minutes early in order to avoid the declining weather conditions.
